George Buchanon McArthy was born January 26, 1803, in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.  He was the son of George X. and Sarah McArthy

 

Margaret Steele was born December 23, 1806, the daughter of William and Jennet Mateer Steele.  One source says she was born in Pennsylvania; another indicates she was born in Ohio.

 

Margaret married George Buchanon McArthy April 13, 1826, in Trumbull County, Ohio.    

 

George and Margaret were the parents of ten children, all born in Trumbull County, Ohio:  Margaret (1826 - 1858), William H. (1827 - 1848), Matthew S. (1829 - 1852), Sally Mariah (1830 - 1847),  Genet Belinda (1833 - 1904), George Sater (1836 - 1906), Louisa Jane (1838 - 1911), Susannah S. (1840 - 1846), Tracy B. (1842 - 1910), and John Riley (1845 - 1925).

 

In 1850, they lived in Noble Township, Wabash County, Indiana, where George farmed.

 

The family lived in Enfield, in White County, Illinois, when Margaret died May 20, 1866.

 

George married Elizabeth Ann Pratt November 13, 1859, in Hamilton County, Illinois.  They lived near Duncanton in White County.  Three children were born to that union: Alexander Buchanon (1860 - 1935), Nelson S. (1862-1880), and Sarah A. (1864 - 1877). 

 

George Buchanon McArthy died May 20, 1866, in White County, Illinois.
