Matthew and Rose Brannigan Corrigan

Matthew Corrigan was born in 1835, the youngest child of John and Bridget Masterson Corrigan, in the village of Knockadoon, County Westmeath, Ireland.

 

Mary Kelley was born in Ireland in 1838, according to her headstone. She was the daughter of John and Catherine Kelley.

 

Matthew and Mary emigrated from Ireland to America in 1860.  They lived in Wayland, Massachusetts, and married in Framingham September 29, 1861.

 

They lived in Framingham when their first son John was born in 1862.  Matthew and Mary had two daughters, Mary and Catherine.

 

In 1865, Matthew farmed in the Cartwright Township of Sangamon County in Illinois.  Mary died of typhoid fever in 1866. 

 

Matthew married Rose Brannigan Haszard February 17, 1868, and continued to farm in the Cartwright Township.  Rose was a widow with one daughter born in Chicago, Tessie Rose Haszard.  Matthew and Rose were the parents of eight more children:  James W., Bernard, Margaret (Maggie), Annie, Bridget Elizabeth, Joseph B.,, Edward, and Matthew D. 

 

In 1900, Matthew was a farmer in the Island Grove Township in Sangamon County.  In 1910, he and Rose lived in New Berlin.

 

Matthew died in 1912.  Rose Died in 1918.  Matthew, Mary, and Rose are buried in Calvary Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois.
