William Henry Hudgens was born September 29, 1857, in Cheatham County, Tennessee.  He was the first child of John Zachariah and Permelia Harris Hudgens.  They moved to Williamson County, Illinois, the summer of 1862, when William was almost five-years-old.

 

Harriet Claire Jones was born April 11, 1858, in Williamson County, Illinois.  She was the third child of Edmond and Susan P. Huffman Jones. 

 

Harriet married William Henry Hudgens on January 11, 1885.  They were parents of  Lena Mae (1885 - 1942), Jesse Oliver (1887 - 1948), and Raymond Robert (1889 - 1962).

 

William died of “congestion” October 9, 1897, when he was only 40-years-old, leaving Harriet to raise three children, all under the age of twelve.  The family continued to live in the Southern Precinct of Williamson County, where Jesse and Raymond worked as farm laborers. 

 

By 1910, the family had moved to Park Avenue in Herrin, Illinois.  In 1920, Harriet and Lena lived on South 15th Street in Herrin. 

 

Harriet died February 22, 1930.  William and Harriet are buried at the Fountain Church Cemetery near Marion, Illinois.
